Scapulomancy

Armomancy (also scapulimancy, scapulomancy, omoplatoscopy) is the art of divination through inspecting one's shoulders or the shoulder blades of sacrificed animals .

Etymology

From Latin armus (shoulder blade).

Method

The diviner observed the patterns or cracks and fissures on the burned shoulder-blade bones of an animal, usually an ox or sheep

History

In ancient times, this inspection was to see whether a human was suitable to be a sacrifice to the Gods.
