Mullion In Australian mythology, an eagle hawk who built his nest on the top of an enormous tree that reached almost to the sky. From this location he would swoop down, catch solitary victims, and bring them back to his eaglets for food. In an effort to bring an end to this practice, two headmen decided to climb the
great tree. Their plan was to set fire to the nest at the top. First Koomba tried, but he could not reach the top. Then Murriwunda climbed up. He came back down exhausted, saying that he too had been unable to reach the top. Actually, he had instructed the fire not to burn until after he and the other headmen had left the site of Mullion’s tree. When they were a safe distance away, a blaze broke out that lit the evening sky. It completely burned the tree, even its roots. Today it is said that hollows can be traced in the ground where the roots once grew.
