Wollonqua

Wollonqua In Australian mythology, the great snake of the Warramunga, who rose out of the Thapauerlu, a vast water hole in the Murchinson Ranges. Wollonqua is said to be so gigantic that even though he traveled many miles from his water hole, his tail was still in it. Wollonqua’s human male companion, Mumumanugara, tried to force the great snake back into his hole, but instead the snake coiled itself around him. In Warramunga ritual the journeys of Wollonqua are acted out by the men. They draw various designs on the ground portraying the adventures of the great snake, who is portrayed covered with red down.
