Harmachis

Harmachis (Horus who is on the horizon) In Egyptian mythology, the Greek form of the Egyptian god Rehoarakhty. According to legend, the Pharaoh Tuthmosis IV, while still a prince, was hunting in the deserts near Giza and sought shelter from the noonday sun in the shadow of the Great Sphinx. He soon fell asleep, and in a dream the Sphinx, as Rehoarakhty, promised him the throne of Egypt if he would clear away the sands that had engulfed the Sphinx. The prince awoke, cleared away the sand, and was later crowned king of Egypt. A stele erected at the site of the Sphinx by Tuthmosis IV records the dream and its consequences.
