Long Lasting Tenants – Ghost Story

In the early eighties, I lived in a house that has a previous tenant die in her sleep, and a man who practiced Satanic rituals in the old home. Needless to say, I didn't learn these things until I had lived there a couple of years. By that time, evidence had mounted that I was not alone in that house.

My first experience was being awaken in the night by a touch on the shoulder. The strange thing about it was the touch felt like it went all the way to the bone. I was not frightened, but a feeling of peace came over me. I am convinced it was the spirit of the old woman who died in her sleep a few years before.

The second incident, a couple of months later, involved the sheets of the bed being pulled down hard on each side of me. I was unable to sit-up against the force. As the pressure released I heard a faint giggle or two. I then preceded to say, “Hey, if you don't bother me, I won't bother you”. The incident never recurred.

About a year after that, I had a roommate move in with me. He stayed in the back bedroom which was always cold and creepy. He had a difficult time sleeping in that room on a number of occasions.

At one point, we decided to replace the patchwork carpet placed by a previous tenant with a new remnant. To our surprise, we found symbols of the occult and a number of what we believed as bloodstains beneath the patchwork carpet.

A friend of mine who had been giving Tarot reading s for about 13 years came to the house and performed a few readings in the occult room. Every reading was exact in nature.

All of the recipients of the readings remarked on the accuracy even to fine details for each reading. The room became a favourite of my Tarot reading friend.

After a year, my roommate was gone, replaced by my girlfriend. She experienced the same “touch” on the shoulder as I did. Her explanation of the feeling was the same, even though I never told her of any incident related to the house(she never would have moved in).

With my girlfriend came 2 dogs. At different times, one would run to the kitchen threshold and bark and whine. I would check the kitchen and find nothing. Funny thing was the other dog acted as if he were dead. It was impossible to wake him when the occurrence was in progress.

I could never explain that. At one point, during some late nights, you could hear the cupboard doors opening, and silverware rustling in the drawers. My girlfriend always thought it was the old woman wandering the house.

The only other time I actually heard verbal responses from those in our house was when there were messages on the answering machine. You could hear the voices, almost a whisper, without understanding the context. We even tried amplified play backs of the taped messages – you could never make out what they were saying.

Finally, one night my ex-roommate and I got drunk and decided to perform an exorcism on the house. We took the ace of spades, put it in one of those large, very thick and heavy ashtrays, and proceeded to attempt to burn the card with stick matches while shouting “begone devil”. After about 60 matches, we wondered if the card would ever burn.

Finally, as the last piece of the card turned to ash, the ashtray burst into 3 large pieces hitting the walls and couch. My ex-roomie and I just stared at each other for a long time.

Needless to say, we never did that again. As the neighborhood worsened, we got robbed, and decided to move. The house is still there.

I don't know who lives there now, but I always wonder if they experienced the same things I did.
