The Walking Man

This “incident” happened to my mother, brother-in-law and my sister a few years ago. They were driving along a road in Hutan Melintang, Perak then.

At around 4.00pm my father was taken ill and was sent to the hospital. Once there, the doctors insisted that he stay for a few days for observation. Since it was about 8.00pm, my brother-in-law and sister were insisting that my mother stayed at their house in Teluk Intan for the night. However my mother was adamant that they need to go back to her house to get some necessities for my father.

They started off at around 9.30pm for Bagan Datoh. My brother-in-law was driving at a moderate speed because he was tired by the day's events. The night was calm and unusually still. A few vehicles had overtaken them and very soon they found themselves alone on the road. It was after they had passed the Hutan Melintang junction that they noticed an Indian man, dressed in a white shirt and a sarong walking by the roadside some distance away from them.

At first they thought nothing of it but after a while my mother remarked that it was strange the man was always walking ahead of them. It was then that my brother-in-law realised his efforts to overtake the man had always failed. The man continued walking ahead of the car for some time until he took a turn leading into one of the coconut estates along the road. They could not explain the appearance of the ghost but were glad they were not harmed in any way.
