Canace (barking) In Greek mythology, daughter of Aeolus and Enarete; she committed incest with her brother Marcareus, had a child, and then killed herself at her father’s command. Marcareus also committed suicide.
In variant accounts Canace is the mother of Hopleus, Nireus, Epopeus, Aloeüs, and Tripoas by Poseidon. Canace is one of the heroines in Ovid’s Heroides
