Odomankoma is one aspect of the triple god Nyame. (The third aspect was Nyankopon.) Nyame represented the natural universe; Nyankopon, its kra, or life-giving power; and Odomankoma, the creative force that made the visible world. Not all Akan-speaking people, however, make these distinctions among the three names of the deity. Odomankoma was revered as god of the Earth and its physical features. Some Akan said that Odomankoma created Earth by carving it from an inert substance that had no kra.

In other traditions, Odomankoma was said to have first made the ocean; he then created the Earth and the sky by pressing the Earth down and raising the sky up. After that he made all the things of the world, animals, and humans.

In some traditions, Odomankoma created Death, and Death killed him.

After Odomankoma died, he either lived on in a different form or was resurrected, depending on the traditional account.
