Graphology

Graphology

Graphology is a divination technique that studies handwriting and its connection to behaviour, personal information and other human traits.
There are three main systems of graphology. In Holistic Graphology, a persons profile is formed on the the basis of Form, Movement and Space. Integrative Graphology is constructed on the basis that specific stroke formations relate to personality traits. Symbolic Analysis is based on the analysis of symbols seen in the handwriting. Every system of graphology has its own vocabulary that makes the meaning those words different.

History

The first known book about Graphology was published in 1622 by Camillo Baldi, an Italian doctor of medicine and philosophy. In 1872, Jean Michon published his book on Graphology which became the Authority on the subject at that time. Soon, European universities started to offer a Ph.D. or Master's degree in graphology. With the advancement of psychology as a profession so did the study of Graphology advanced.

Methods

You will need a sample of spontaneous handwriting written on plain paper using a ballpoint or fountain pen of not less than 12 lines long with a signature, the age and sex of the writer. Graphology instruments needed are a magnifying glass, plastic ruler showing millimeters and a protractor for assessing the slant of the writing.

The signature is important because it will show how one person feel about himself and the image that he want to project to others. Large or underlined signatures with a large initial capital letter show self-importance and a desire to be admired, whereas flourishes that wrap around or enclose the name indicate a protective and sometimes secretive nature.

Look at the slant of the text of the writing style. The more the writing slants to the right the more outgoing the person is. He needs human contact and have a desire to give and receive affection. But if the handwriting slopes at a very steep angle, the person may be too emotional for his own good. Alternatively, a left slanting script indicates an introvert character. The person is guided by his head more than his heart. He may need understanding to help him overcome his self consciousness and can sometimes be a little anti-social. Many people have a mixture of slants. This indicates a versatile but sometimes moody personality. Changeable feelings pull one person between impulse and control.
The pressure and thickness of the strokes also means a lot. Heavy pressure and thickness of line reveals a sensual and energetic nature. Light pressure indicates a hesitative and sometimes critical disposition. The person may get tired easily.

A large script shows that the person loves being in the limelight and need an exciting social life to be really happy. A medium sized script shows that the person is adaptable, polite and composed. Small writing reveals a precise nature but if the writing is extremely small then he may feel inferiority too others.

The spacing between words and letters tells how generous or mean the person is. Also, it tells if the person is outgoing. Narrow spacing between words indicates a need for people and wide spacing suggests caution in relationships. Wide spacing between lines is a sign of an inability to plan and close line spaces the opposite.

Modern forms

Graphology has been actively used in compiling profiles for Employment, Business Partnerships and Marital Compatibility. In Switzerland, approximately 80 percent of large corporations use graphology in their hiring procedures. Forensic document examination is not Graphology as it is only used to determine whether or not a document was written by the person concerned.
