Pundjel

Pundjel In Australian mythology, a creator god who first created man. He made the first couple, two men, from clay on pieces of bark. The black creature was called Kookinberrook, the lighter-colored creature, Berrokborn. Pundjel breathed on them and danced them to life. Then Pallian, the brother of Pundjel, discovered two female forms gradually emerging head first from muddy waters. One was Kunewarra; the other was Kuurook. They became the wives of the first two men. The men were given spears; the women, digging sticks. In time children were born, and the earth was inhabited, but Pundjel and Pallian found the children to be evil and cut them into pieces. A great wind then came and scattered the pieces, and they were turned into whole people.
