Kristie, one of our team’s researchers, bought a farmhouse almost four years ago. Little did she know at the time that her life would be forever changed by this house. The farmhouse was rebuilt in 1920 after a fire destroyed the original structure. On the property stands a barn that dates back to the early 1800s. Within a mile of this house lay five different cemeteries dating back to 1800. Could the ghosts who haunt this property be former owners of the house? Or are they restless spirits traveling from the nearby cemeteries? No one knows for sure, but the Southwest Washington Paranormal Research (SWPR) team was called out to investigate this property back in March of 2004.
Since the first week the Murphy family moved in, they noticed strange things happening, such as lightbulbs burning out frequently, and radios and televisions turning on and off by themselves. The family also experienced times of feeling as if they were being watched even though they were alone. At first, the activity was relatively mild but soon turned into something much more sinister. They started to feel not so welcome in their new home. On one occasion, Kristie was coming down the stairs and felt a strong feeling of being pushed as she reached the middle of the stairway— almost causing her to break her foot and tailbone. After she stood up in pain, she walked to the kitchen and saw three figures: a man, a woman, and a teenage girl, all wearing clothes from the 1800s. She thought she might be going crazy and that it was just her imagination until others in the house started to experience the activity. She knew that her house was haunted.
One experience her son had to endure was being pushed out a window by unseen hands—the fall caused him to have a fractured back. The family has reported seeing a lady walking through the hall upstairs and hearing their names being called out when no one is there. Just about everyone who has visited the Murphy Farm has experienced some type of phenomena, whether it be shadows of figures, figures at your bedside, cold spots, or footsteps running up behind you. Visitors claim to feel even more uncomfortable in the barn and office area where there is always a heaviness to the air. Kristie and her sister-in-law, Stacey, decided to start documenting the events that were happening.
Kristie and Stacey contacted SWPR, and we set out to capture all of the paranormal activity that we could. They were soon welcomed as researchers on our team. We have been able to capture some incredible activity on this property including this photo. During a few of our official investigations, we have been able to document cold spots throughout the house and barn area. We have captured electronic voice phenomena and many Ectoplasm pictures. Though no EMF readings have been detected, motion detectors have been tripped in the main house. We noted an increase in activity between the hours of 10 p.m. and 4 a.m..
