Tororut

tororut suk (Kenya) The Supreme God and Creator who made Earth and was responsible for the birth of humans and animals. According to one legend, Tororut was human in form but had gigantic wings. When he beat his wings, their sound created thunder and their movement flashed like lightning. (See also thunder and lightning.) The heavenly bodies were all related to Tororut— the Sun was his younger brother, the Pleiades were his wife, and the Moon was his firstborn son. rain was another son, and the stars were also his children. The Evening Star (the evening phase of the planet Venus) was his firstborn daughter. These deities were all viewed as benevolent and positively inclined toward human beings. Only the Sun—who became angry during the dry season—was not entirely benevolent. One myth explains how livestock—cattle, sheep, and goats—came to live with humans. Long ago, all the animals lived in the forest. Tororut built a large fire and called the animals to come to him. Most of the animals were afraid of the fire and ran away. Only the cattle, sheep, and goats came when Tororut called. Pleased by them, Tororut decreed that from then on they would live with humans.
