Mbaba Mwana Waresa
mbaba mwaNa waresa (Lady Rainbow) Zulu (South Africa) The goddess of the rainbow, rain,
harvest, and agriculture. She was especially loved by the Zulu for bringing them the gift of beer. The tale of the goddess’s search for a husband is well known. Although Mbaba Mwana Waresa lived in the sky in a beautiful house made of rainbow arches, she was lonely and unhappy. She was unable to find a husband among the gods, who were too warlike, so she decided to search among mortals. In a simple village, she found the cattle herder Thandiwe, who sang of his true love for the land. Hearing his song, Mbaba Mwana Waresa knew that she had found the perfect partner.
