Panathenaea (all-Athenian festival) In ancient Greek ritual, the summer festival in honour of Athena’s birthday. As part of the rite the people presented a peplum to the goddess in a long procession along the Sacred Way to the Parthenon. This scene is depicted on one of the temple friezes of the Elgin Marbles.
