Iouskeha and Tawiscaron

Iouskeha and Tawiscaron (Yoskeha and Tawiscara) In North American Indian mythology (Iroquois), twin gods, one good, the other evil. The unborn twins began to quarrel in their mother’s womb. After his birth, Tawiscaron killed his mother. But the goddess Ataensic, their grandmother, believed that Iouskeha was evil and Tawiscaron good. The two brothers were constantly in conflict with each other. Iouskeha created fruit trees and pleasant bushes and placed the sun and moon in their sphere of heaven; Tawiscaron created thorns and the Rocky Mountains. In the end, Iouskeha succeeded in imprisoning his evil brother underground.
