Chibcachum (Chicchechum)

Chibcachum (Chicchechum) In the mythology of the Chibcha Indians of Colombia, patron god of laborers and merchants. Once Chibcachum became angry with the people and sent a flood over the land. They called on Bochica, chief of the gods, to save them. He appeared as a rainbow near the town of Soacha. As the sun, he dried the waters, then with his staff he opened a deep chasm in the rocks so that the flood waters could recede. From this the great waterfall Tequendama was formed. Chibcachum went underground, and from that time he has supported the earth. Earthquakes occur when Chibcachum shifts his burden from one shoulder to another.
