Alloces - Demon and Spirit of Solomon

Alloces, also known as Allocen or Allocer, is the fifty-second spirit of the Ars Goetia and one of the seventy-two Spirits of Solomon. He is described as a powerful duke of Hell, commanding thirty-six legions of demons.

In traditional Goetic descriptions, Alloces appears in the form of a soldier riding upon a great horse. His most striking feature is his lion-like face, said to be red and fierce, with flaming eyes that suggest both authority and intensity. His voice is loud, rough, and hoarse, giving him an imposing presence when he manifests.

Alloces is primarily associated with knowledge. He is said to teach astronomy and the liberal sciences, making him a spirit connected not only with infernal power, but also with learning, observation, and intellectual discipline. In this sense, he represents the darker image of the scholar-warrior: a force that combines martial command with hidden knowledge.

He is also believed to provide beneficial familiars. These familiars may be understood as assisting spirits, companions, or forces that aid the practitioner in magical work, depending on the tradition and interpretation being used.

According to the Goetia of Dr. Rudd, Alloces is governed by the angel Imamiah. This angelic correspondence reflects the Rudd tradition’s attempt to place the Goetic spirits within a wider system of divine control, where each demon is balanced or constrained by an angelic power.

Alloces is therefore not merely a demonic figure of fear, but a spirit of learning, command, and disciplined occult intelligence. His symbolism points toward knowledge gained through strength, focus, and the ability to confront difficult forces without losing control.
