The Goddess of War and Destruction

Enyo is an ancient Greek goddess of war, bloodshed and the destruction of cities. She delights in the chaos of battle and appears wherever armies clash, fortifications fall and civilisation is consumed by violence.

Unlike deities associated with strategy or heroic victory, Enyo represents warfare in its most brutal and devastating form. She embodies the screams of the battlefield, the burning of cities and the uncontrolled fury that follows when conflict overwhelms reason.

Companion of Ares

Enyo is closely associated with Ares, the Greek god of war. She is variously described as his sister, companion, friend or lover. Together, they move across the battlefield, encouraging warriors and spreading terror among their enemies.

While Ares personifies the rage and physical violence of combat, Enyo is especially connected with the destruction left behind. She exults in slaughter and takes pleasure in the collapse of cities and kingdoms.

Enyo and Eris

Enyo may sometimes be identified with Eris, the goddess of strife and discord. Both accompany Ares and thrive wherever conflict erupts. However, Eris is primarily responsible for provoking rivalry and disagreement, while Enyo represents the violent devastation that follows.

In Roman mythology, Enyo was associated with Bellona, the fierce Roman goddess of war.
