Pajana

Pajana In Siberian mythology, a creator god of the Black Tartars. Pajana formed creatures from the earth, but seeing that they lacked life, he went to the Kudai (seven spirits who watch over men’s destinies) to obtain from them lifegiving spirits to instill in his new creatures. Pajana left a naked dog to guard them while he was away. Erlik, the devil, came and said he would cover the dog with golden hair if the dog would give him the soulless bodies. The dog agreed, and Erlik then spat on the bodies. When Pajana returned and saw what had happened, he turned the bodies inside out; that is why man’s insides are filled with the devil’s dirt.
