Photomancy: Divination Through Light

Photomancy is a form of divination in which the practitioner gazes into fields of light and interprets the patterns, movements and visual impressions that appear. The name derives from the Greek root associated with phōs or phōtos, meaning “light”, combined with manteia, meaning divination or prophecy.

The practice belongs to the broader family of visual divination in which light itself becomes the medium. A photomancer may concentrate upon reflected sunlight, candlelight, beams passing through glass or other luminous surfaces, watching for unusual shapes, colours, flashes or patterns that seem to carry symbolic meaning.
