Tony Beaver is in American folklore, a comic hero of the West Virginia lumberjacks whose antics often take place in the Cumberland Mountains. In one tale he built a wagon cart that covered ten acres of land to carry watermelons. When the wagon broke, causing melons to fall into the Eel River, his friends each straddled a seed and rowed away. Tony is credited with inventing peanut brittle: once when a river was overflowing, Tony took some molasses and peanuts, and threw them into the river to stop it up.
