Lempi

Lempi (erotic) In Finnish mythology, personification of erotic love; father of the hero Lemminkainen in the Finnish epic poem The Kalevala. In the epic the mythical bay Lemmenlahti (rune 18) is a combination of Lempi and lahti (bay), suggesting that it was a trysting place for lovers. Lempi’s wife, the mother of Lemminkainen, is not named in the epic. Though Lempi was originally a man’s name, it is usually given to women today. The female counterpart of Lempi is Sukkamielli (frenzied love).
