Secret societies are relatively small groups in which membership is gained by initiation. Many of the groups practice ritual ceremonies with religious influences, particularly that of mysticism and Satanism. Many of the societies claim to be just a social club, but others speculate that these fraternities have a hidden agenda – such as gaining power within society or amassing large amounts of wealth.
Since the practices of these societies are meant to be “secret,” much of the information about them are in question. The rumours that circulate about these secret societies lead many to form conspiracy theories and hypotheses about their internal motives. The most common hypotheses and theories are:
1) plans for starting a New World Order, and
2) deceiving the majority of the population to gain power and wealth.
