Orbona

Orbona – The Orphan

Following the death of a child, Roman parents made a pilgrimage to Orbona’s shrine to offer sacrifices to her. These were not intended as prayers for the deceased but rather as petitions for her protection for remaining and future children. Parents left childless because of the deaths of their children are believed to be under her protection.

• Parents of endangered children may also beg Orbona’s favour.

• Orbona is invoked for fertility but traditionally only after another child has died.
