Agaliarept is a powerful demon named in the Grand Grimoire, where he appears as one of the great officers of Hell. He is described as a general of Hell and a commander of infernal spirits, serving under the authority of the emperor Lucifer and his prime minister, Lucifuge Rofocale.

Unlike many demons who are known mainly for temptation, destruction, wealth or sensual power, Agaliarept is especially associated with mysteries, hidden knowledge and the revelation of arcane secrets. He is a spirit of concealed things: the locked chamber, the forbidden book, the hidden doctrine, the secret name, the buried truth.

General of Hell

In the infernal hierarchy of the Grand Grimoire, Agaliarept is not a minor spirit. He holds military and administrative authority. As a general of Hell, he commands the Second Legion of Spirits for the glory of Lucifer and Lucifuge Rofocale.

This places him within a structured demonic order. Hell, in grimoires such as the Grand Grimoire, is not presented as chaos alone. It has kings, ministers, officers, generals and legions. Agaliarept belongs to this organised infernal architecture.

His role as general suggests command, discipline, strategy and authority. He is not simply a wandering demon. He is part of the machinery of infernal power.

Keeper of Mysteries

Agaliarept is known as a keeper of mysteries.

This title gives him a distinctly occult character. He is said to reveal arcane and sublime secrets to the dutiful practitioner. The word “dutiful” is important. In grimoire tradition, spirits do not usually give their knowledge casually. The magician must approach through ritual structure, preparation, command, pact, sacrifice, invocation or disciplined magical authority.

Agaliarept’s knowledge is not ordinary knowledge. It is hidden, elevated, forbidden or difficult to obtain. He is associated with secrets that lie beyond surface understanding: occult philosophy, spirit hierarchies, magical operations, hidden causes, and the concealed workings of power.

Revealer of Arcane Secrets

The power most strongly associated with Agaliarept is revelation.

He can disclose secrets that are hidden from ordinary human perception. These may include magical secrets, spiritual mysteries, concealed motives, forbidden knowledge, or truths that have been deliberately buried.

In occult symbolism, this makes Agaliarept a dangerous teacher. To reveal a secret is to remove a veil. But not every veil is removed without consequence. Some secrets empower. Others disturb. Some liberate the practitioner. Others bind the practitioner more deeply to the forces that revealed them.

Agaliarept therefore represents knowledge that must be approached with discipline, not curiosity alone.

Buer, Gusion and Botis

According to the tradition attached to Agaliarept, three demons traditionally included among the seventy-two spirits of the Goetia answer directly to him: Buer, Gusion and Botis.

This is an important detail because it links the hierarchy of the Grand Grimoire with the broader Solomonic demonic tradition.

Buer is often associated with philosophy, healing, herbs, logic and moral knowledge.

Gusion, also called Guison in some traditions, is connected with answering questions, revealing past, present and future matters, and reconciling friendships.

Botis is associated with knowledge of past and future, reconciliation, and sometimes the revelation of hidden matters.

That these spirits answer to Agaliarept reinforces his identity as a commander of secret knowledge. The spirits under him are themselves associated with learning, answers, revelation, healing, reconciliation and hidden truth.

Agaliarept and Luciferian Power

Agaliarept serves “for the glory of the emperor Lucifer,” which gives him a distinctly Luciferian context within the Grand Grimoire.

Lucifer, as emperor, represents the supreme infernal light, intelligence and command. Lucifuge Rofocale, as prime minister, governs the darker administrative current of Hell. Agaliarept functions beneath this authority as a general and keeper of mysteries.

In this structure, Agaliarept may be understood as one of the spirits who channels hidden knowledge from the infernal hierarchy into magical practice. He is not merely a demon of darkness; he is a demon of revelation within darkness.

Symbolic Meaning of Agaliarept

Agaliarept symbolises hidden knowledge under command.

He represents the secret that is not freely given, the mystery guarded by power, and the intelligence that stands behind the veil of the infernal hierarchy.

He may symbolise:

Hidden doctrines

Forbidden knowledge

Occult secrecy

Infernal command

Magical authority

The disciplined pursuit of mysteries

The danger of revelation without wisdom

The connection between knowledge and power

Agaliarept is not a spirit of shallow curiosity. His lore belongs to the serious and severe side of ceremonial magic, where knowledge is obtained through structure, risk and responsibility.

Agaliarept in Occult Study

For students of demonology, Agaliarept is important because he reveals how grimoires organise the demonic world. The Grand Grimoire presents Hell as a hierarchy of authority, with Lucifer as emperor, Lucifuge Rofocale as prime minister, and spirits such as Agaliarept serving in powerful offices beneath them.

This differs from the modern popular image of demons as random forces of evil. In grimoire magic, demons often have titles, ranks, offices, powers and chains of command.

Agaliarept’s office concerns both authority and revelation. He commands spirits, guards mysteries and reveals secrets to the practitioner who approaches properly.

Conclusion

Agaliarept is a demon of the Grand Grimoire, named as a general of Hell and commander of the Second Legion of Spirits under Lucifer and Lucifuge Rofocale. He is a keeper of mysteries and a revealer of arcane and sublime secrets.

Buer, Gusion and Botis are said to answer directly to him, linking him with spirits of knowledge, answers, healing, philosophy and hidden truth.

Agaliarept is therefore a figure of infernal intelligence: not chaos, not mere destruction, but command, secrecy, revelation and power.

He reminds the occult student that knowledge is never neutral when it comes from the depths.

Some secrets open doors.

Some secrets demand payment.

And some secrets change the one who receives them.
