Aleasi

Aleasi is a night-demon named in the Ars Theurgia, where he belongs to the northern hierarchy of spirits and serves beneath the demon-king Raysiel. Within this system he holds the elevated rank of chief duke, giving him authority over a substantial retinue of subordinate spirits and placing him among the more important infernal officials associated with Raysiel’s court.

Aleasi is specifically connected with the hours of the night. According to the Ars Theurgia, he does not manifest during the daytime and can only be approached within the period assigned to him after darkness has fallen. This nocturnal restriction reflects the tightly organised structure of the grimoire, in which spirits are often bound not only to particular directions but also to particular times.

His character is described in distinctly negative terms. Aleasi is reputed to possess an obstinate and evil nature, suggesting that he was considered difficult to command and potentially resistant to the authority of the magician. This quality distinguishes him from those spirits in the Ars Theurgia described as obedient, courteous or willing to appear.

The description of Aleasi as obstinate is especially significant within ceremonial magic. A spirit that resisted manifestation or refused to obey would require the operator to rely more heavily upon the ritual authority, divine names and hierarchical commands prescribed by the magical system. In this sense, Aleasi represents the more dangerous and confrontational side of the Ars Theurgia, where not every entity is expected to cooperate willingly.

Despite his difficult temperament, Aleasi holds considerable authority of his own. Forty lesser spirits serve beneath him and are said to carry out his commands. This places him within the layered supernatural government characteristic of the Ars Theurgia, where kings command dukes, dukes command lesser spirits, and magical power is understood through rank, allegiance and chains of command.

His association with the north also situates him within the directional cosmology of the grimoire. The Ars Theurgia repeatedly assigns spirits to specific quarters of the compass, creating a spiritual geography in which different rulers and their servants occupy distinct regions of the unseen world. Aleasi therefore belongs not merely to a demonic hierarchy, but to a carefully ordered map of invisible powers.

Very little else is preserved about him. The text does not provide an elaborate physical description, extensive mythology or a detailed catalogue of individual powers. Aleasi is known primarily through his allegiance to Raysiel, his rank as chief duke, his nocturnal activity, his northern association and the forty spirits beneath his command.

That apparent simplicity is deceptive. Spirits such as Aleasi reveal how intricate the Ars Theurgia truly is.
