Charoblel : The Beautiful Duke of Bidiel

Charoblel is a demon described in the Ars Theurgia, where he appears among the great dukes serving the infernal prince Bidiel.

Unlike many spirits whose forms are deliberately monstrous or terrifying, Charoblel is said to appear in a human shape that is strikingly beautiful and pleasing to behold. His manifestation suggests that not every demonic presence is represented through horror. Some spirits are described as attractive precisely because their appearance can conceal the nature of the power behind them.

Charoblel holds the rank of one of Bidiel’s ten great dukes. Within that hierarchy, he commands a considerable retinue of his own and is said to oversee two thousand four hundred lesser spirits.

His name and seal are preserved in the Ars Theurgia, the section of the Lemegeton concerned with spirits arranged beneath powerful princes and organised according to complex infernal hierarchies.

Very little independent mythology survives around Charoblel. What remains is the image of a high-ranking spirit whose outward beauty stands in contrast with his place within a demonic court.

Go Beyond the Names

Charoblel is exactly the kind of spirit that disappears when demonology is reduced to a few famous names.

The deeper grimoires contain entire hierarchies of spirits whose seals, ranks and functions are rarely studied outside specialist circles.

If you want to understand where these beings come from and how the old magical systems actually organised them, then stop treating demonology like a collection of curiosities.

Enter the Occult World Mystery School. Study the grimoires. Learn the hierarchies. Go deeper than the people who only repeat the names.
