Adno-artina
In Australian Aboriginal mythology, Adno-Artina is a legendary gecko lizard known for its boldness and strength. According to the myth, Adno-Artina challenged Marindi, a powerful and fearsome dog, to a fight. Despite Marindi’s intimidating presence and reputation, the gecko proved to be more than a match.
In a fierce and dramatic battle, Adno-Artina triumphed, ultimately killing Marindi. The myth holds that Marindi’s blood spilled across the landscape, staining the rocks a deep red. This vivid imagery is often used to explain the red-colored rocks found in certain areas of the Australian outback, symbolizing both the epic struggle between the two creatures and the transformative power of nature.
The tale of Adno-Artina and Marindi not only serves as a captivating story of an underdog victory but also reflects the Aboriginal people’s deep connection with the land and their interpretation of natural phenomena through mythology.
