The book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage

Aherom: Demon of the Four Infernal Princes

Aherom is a demon named in S. L. MacGregor Mathers’ 1898 translation of The Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage. He belongs to the immense hierarchy of spirits that appear throughout the Abramelin system, where demons are arranged beneath greater infernal rulers rather than presented as isolated beings.

Aherom is listed among the demons who serve the four powerful princes associated with the cardinal directions: Oriens, Paimon, Ariton and Amaimon. These four figures occupy an important position within the magical structure of Abramelin, each exercising authority over subordinate spirits who may be summoned, commanded and constrained through the ritual system described in the text.

Unlike some of the better known demons of ceremonial magic, Aherom is not given a detailed personality, appearance or individual office in the surviving material. His significance lies in his place within the infernal hierarchy itself, as one of the many spirits subject to the authority of the four princes.

Aherom therefore belongs to that vast and shadowed population of lesser demons whose names survive because they formed part of an ordered magical cosmos. In the Abramelin tradition, even an obscure spirit is not meaningless. Every name marks a position within a structure of command, obedience and occult power.
