Helvellyn

Murray’s Handbook for … Cumberland (1866) reports the tradition of a spectral army having been seen marching over Helvellyn on the eve of the battle of Marston Moor, fought on 2 July 1644. The Handbook also reports a similar phenomenon having been seen a century later on Blencathra, for which see SOUTHER FELL.
