Koumyoumin is a regional Nat whose territory encompasses a large part of the area around Kyankse, Burma. Because the number nine is sacred to him, it is tabooed and off-limits to people. Koumyoumin dislikes and will potentially harm anything that consists of nine units. For example, when driving through his domain, avehicle cannot contain nine people as it is feared that Koumyoumin will cause an accident. There must be either more or less but never nine. If the number absolutely cannot be avoided, then subterfuge must be used to avoid Koumyomin’s wrath. For instance, a large stone will be placed in the vehicle to symbolically represent a tenth passenger.
