Makalos: Occultist S. L. MacGregor Mathers gives the meaning of this demon’s name as “wasted” or “gaunt.” Makalos appears in the Mathers translation of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage. A servant of the greater demon Magoth, this demon’s name varies greatly between the different surviving texts of the Abramelin material. The 1608 version kept at the Wolfenbiittellibrary renders the name Mokaschef The Peter Hammer edition offers Cheikaseph. And the version kept at the Dresden library splits it into two names, Mei and Kaseph. All of these are copies of a lost original, so there is no telling which spelling is correct.
