Symbolomancy

Symbolomancy is a method of foretelling based on the object occurring on the road.

Etymology

Derived from the Greek sumbolon ('sign') and manteia ('prophecy'.

Method

There are many forms but it usually occurs as the story: “The first person or animal the traveller would meet on the road”
According to the Complete Book of the Occult and Fortune Telling By M. C. Poinsot, it is a good omen to meet on the road a madman, a hunchback, a trio formed of a postman, a soldier and a white horse. It is considered a bad omen to meet a priest, a gravedigger, a madman singing, a man without legs.
