This Victorian home stands in the small town of Genoa, Nevada, and was the first established community in the Silver State. The Dake House now serves as an antique store and may be one of the most haunted places in northern Nevada. The house was once the home of the local undertaker, which might account for some of the odd goings-on that take place at the site. The first reported supernatural event reported happened when a large painting, a still life of roses in a vase, flew from the wall. The owner later learned the painting was a “spirit painting” done at a Séance by a well-known San Francisco medium at the turn of the 19th century.
Footsteps echo in the antique store, and phantom shadows are reported by the staff. There are also ghostly smells in the place. The strangest story was that of a visitor who was walking on the second floor. In the master bedroom, now filled with antiques, he paused to look out the window. Just as he did, the man was slapped. He turned and discovered he was quite alone in the room. He ran from the house vowing never to return. Many ghost hunters and local TV crews have visited the place over the last two years, and each one has come away convinced that the place is haunted by several ghosts. The most prominent spirit is that of an older woman.
