Lower Fort Garry Garden Center – St. Andrews
Lower Fort Garry, located in St. Andrews, Manitoba, is renowned not only for its historical significance but also for its haunted reputation. Over the years, numerous reports of paranormal phenomena have emerged from this site, captivating both visitors and paranormal enthusiasts.
The Warehouse Apparition
One of the most frequently reported hauntings involves the Warehouse building. Staff members have often felt an unsettling sensation of being watched when alone inside. On several occasions, visitors have mentioned seeing a costumed man standing behind staff members, only for the staff to find no one upon turning around. Additionally, during nighttime, figures have been observed peering from the third-floor windows. Upon investigation, these floors are found empty, adding to the mystery.
The Three-Step Ghost
Another eerie occurrence is the phenomenon known as the “Three-Step Ghost.” Many team members have reported hearing distinct footsteps on the path leading to the Men’s House. The sequence typically involves three steps: one on the gravel, one on the wooden steps, and one on the floor of the blacksmith’s bedroom. Despite thorough searches, no physical presence is ever found, leaving the source of these footsteps unexplained.
Tit Loup (Little Wolf)
The legend of Tit Loup adds a poignant touch to the fort’s haunted tales. Jean-Louis Blanchard, a tripsman for the Hudson’s Bay Company, would depart from Lower Fort Garry every spring, leaving behind his loyal dog, Tit Loup. Tragically, after an accident prevented Blanchard’s return one year, sightings of a dog resembling Tit Loup have been reported running along the riverbank at night, seemingly awaiting his master’s return.
