British College of Psychic Science
British College of Psychic Science (BCPS) A psychical research institute founded in 1920 in London by Hewat McKenzie and his wife. Modeled after the Institut Metapsychique International in Paris, the BCPS pursued the Scientific study of Mediums and Mediumship, the collection of evidence of Survival After Death, and related paranormal phenomena. It also provided counseling and advice to the public concerning consulting mediums.
It was somewhat competitive with the London Spiritual Alliance, which later became the College of Psychic Studies. Both organizations provided facilities for numerous important studies done of mediums. In 1938, the BCPS merged with the International Institute for Psychical Research; the new organization was known as the Institute for Experimental Metaphysics.
Following a decline during World War II, it ceased to exist in 1947, and its library and records were destroyed or dispersed.
