Mextyura

Mextyura is a demon named in the Sworn Book of Honorius, where he appears beneath the authority of Maymon, king of the spirits associated with Saturn.

In the translation by Joseph H. Peterson, Mextyura is described as a spirit capable of stirring destructive emotions within human beings. His influence is said to provoke hatred and anger, while also drawing the victim into sorrow. This makes him a spirit whose power is directed not only toward conflict between people, but toward the gradual poisoning of the emotional state itself.

Mextyura is also associated with severe winter weather. He is said to possess the ability to bring down storms of snow and ice, giving him a destructive power that extends beyond the human mind and into the natural world. His Saturnian connection reinforces this darker character, since Saturn has long been associated in occult tradition with severity, restriction and coldness.

The text connects Mextyura with the north, yet also describes him as subordinate to the southwest wind. The relationship between these two directions is not clearly explained within the grimoire, and the apparent contradiction remains unresolved. Rather than representing a coherent directional system, the surviving text may preserve different layers of magical correspondence that were brought together during its transmission.

A similar name appears elsewhere in the Sworn Book. In the Driscoll translation, a demon called Zynextur is said to serve Albunalich, a demon-king connected with the earth. The resemblance between the names is striking, although the texts do not establish whether Mextyura and Zynextur should be understood as the same spirit or as separate beings whose names developed from a common textual source.

Mextyura therefore remains one of those obscure grimoire spirits whose identity is defined more by fragments of magical correspondence than by an elaborate mythology. What survives is enough to place him within a Saturnian and elemental framework, yet not enough to remove all uncertainty surrounding his exact position.
