Omich: The Eastern Duke of Carnesiel
Omich is a demon named in the Ars Theurgia, one of the spirit catalogues associated with the wider Solomonic grimoire tradition. He appears under the rule of Carnesiel, the infernal Emperor of the East, and holds the rank of duke.
In the Ars Theurgia, demons are arranged through a precise system of hierarchy, direction, rank and rulership. Omich is therefore not presented as an isolated spirit, but as part of the eastern court governed by Carnesiel. This places him within a structured magical universe where every spirit has a ruler, a position and a place within the unseen order.
Carnesiel, as Emperor of the East, rules over a vast number of spirits connected with that direction. The east is often associated with dawn, beginnings, air, illumination, awakening and the first movement of light. Yet in the Ars Theurgia, this eastern current is not purely angelic or gentle. It also contains infernal rulers, dukes and subordinate spirits who operate within its occult geography.
As a duke under Carnesiel, Omich represents a lesser but still dignified authority within this court. The title of duke suggests command, service and magical rank. He is not described as a great infernal king or emperor, but neither is he an insignificant spirit. His place beneath Carnesiel gives him authority within a specific chain of command.
Because the text gives little detail about Omich’s appearance, powers or individual nature, his significance lies mainly in his position. Many spirits in the Ars Theurgia are preserved in this way: as names within a hierarchy rather than richly described personalities. Yet in ceremonial magic, such names matter. A spirit’s name, ruler, direction and rank form part of its magical identity.
Omich belongs to the hidden architecture of the eastern infernal court. He reflects the grimoire’s vision of a spirit world that is not chaotic, but ordered through titles, courts and directional powers. To study Omich is to explore the technical and mysterious side of demonology, where obscure names reveal the deeper structure behind ceremonial spirit work.
