The Voynich Manuscript Dated – The World’s Most Enigmatic Book Reveals Its Age
A breakthrough has emerged in one of the world’s longest-standing literary mysteries.
The Voynich Manuscript — that indecipherable, lavishly illustrated book which has defied scholars, linguists, and cryptographers for centuries — has finally yielded one of its secrets.
Researchers from the University of Arizona have determined that the mysterious volume, long shrouded in speculation, dates back to the early 15th century, making it over six hundred years old. Using advanced radiocarbon (C14) dating, scientists analysed the animal parchment upon which its strange symbols and botanical images were drawn, revealing that the material originated between 1404 and 1438.
Lead researcher Greg Hodgins described the discovery with awe:
“We’re dealing with a magnificent puzzle that no one has cracked. To uncover even this small piece of its origin feels extraordinary.”
A Book Beyond Understanding
Owned by Yale University, the Voynich Manuscript was rediscovered in 1912 by antiquarian bookseller Wilfrid Voynich. Its pages are filled with unknown symbols, unidentifiable plants, celestial diagrams, and strange nude figures immersed in cryptic rituals — all drawn in vibrant inks and pigments that have resisted time and interpretation alike.
Despite decades of study by the world’s leading cryptographers, no known language or code has matched the script. Every word remains utterly unreadable, every page a map of mystery.
Echoes of Alchemy
To some, the manuscript is not a cipher at all but an alchemical grimoire, written in symbolic language meant to conceal sacred wisdom from the uninitiated. The intertwining of nature, stars, and human anatomy within its pages seems to mirror the Hermetic vision of the cosmos, where every living thing reflects the divine structure of the universe.
“No one knows what is written within,” Hodgins remarked, “but it appears to concern subjects tied to alchemy — and secrecy has always been its shadow.”
Whether cipher, riddle, or revelation, the Voynich Manuscript continues to resist all who seek to possess its truth.
Its age may now be known — yet its message remains locked in silence.
And perhaps that is its true purpose:
to remind us that not every secret wishes to be solved.
