Hoppál, Mihály – Hungarian ethnographer with wide interests in the shamanisms of Eurasia, particularly those of Siberia and Hungary. In addition to important ethnographic publications, Hoppál has surveyed ethnographic films about shamans and their activities, and he has discussed both historical material and contemporary shamanism, particularly with regard to those involved in the “cultural revivals” of various post-Soviet republics in Asia. Hoppál has also collaborated in important coedited publications with Anna-Leena Siikala, Juha Pentikäinen, and Otto von Sadovszky.
