Alcyone, daughter of Atlas, is the leader of the seven sister spirits, the Pleiades. She had a long love affair with Poseidon, by whom she has many children.

Alkyone is the name assigned the brightest of the Pleiades, the cluster of stars in the constellation Taurus.
