Amiblel: Duke of Demoriel
Amiblel is a demon named in the Ars Theurgia, where he appears in the service of Demoriel, the infernal Emperor of the North. Within this elaborate hierarchy, Amiblel holds the rank of duke and exercises authority over one thousand one hundred and forty lesser spirits who minister beneath him.
His position within Demoriel’s court places him inside one of the carefully ordered supernatural structures described in the grimoire. The spirits of the Ars Theurgia are not presented as a chaotic collection of demons acting independently, but as members of vast hierarchies governed by emperors, kings, princes and subordinate nobles. Amiblel’s title therefore signifies both his allegiance to Demoriel and his command over a considerable number of lesser entities.
What makes Amiblel particularly distinctive is the strict limitation placed upon the time of his invocation. According to the Ars Theurgia, he should be called only during the first two hours of the day. This connection with a narrow period of daylight reflects the importance of magical timing within ceremonial traditions, where the availability or influence of a spirit may be understood as changing according to the hour.
Such instructions suggest that the magician was expected to do far more than simply know the spirit’s name. Successful ritual work depended upon understanding the supernatural order surrounding the entity, including its ruler, its rank and the precise conditions under which contact was believed possible.
