Peters, Larry G.
Peters, Larry G. (1942â ) – Peters is one of a number of scholarsturned- shamans, such as Michael Harner, who have undertaken anthropological fieldwork with shamans and undergone experiences that led them to become shamans themselves and thereafter to teach neo-shamans. Peters is a professor of anthropology and psychology at the California Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology and Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles and a board member of the Society for the Anthropology of Consciousness. He has carried out fieldwork in Nepal, China, Mongolia, and Siberia and is self-termed a âTibetan Shamanâ using shamanic counseling and other psychotherapies âto promote psycho-spiritual integrationâ in his clients. Petersâs teaching methods and healing practices are firmly situated in the tradition of Harnerâs core shamanism, and indeed he is a research associate with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies.
