Tart, Charles T.
Tart, Charles T. (1937â ) – Professor and core faculty member of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, Palo Alto, California. Tart is internationally known for his psychological work on the nature of consciousnessâparticularly altered states of consciousnessâespecially the volume Altered States of Consciousness (1969), as well as his research in scientific parapsychology. He is one of the founders of the field of transpersonal psychology, and his book Transpersonal Psychologies (1975) was instrumental in integrating the field into modern psychology. With his interests in the interface between scientific and spiritual communities, Tart edits the online journal TASTE, âdedicated to exploring the transcendent experiences of scientists.â
