Marae

Marae: One of several night-demons who serve in the court of the infernal prince Usiel. Marae has twenty lesser spirits at his command, and he has the power to reveal hidden treasure. He can also use charms and enchantments to secret away precious things, thus preventing them from being stolen. The name and seal of this demon both appear in the Ars Theurgia. He serves in the region of the west. The name of this demon may be derived from the Old Norse mara, a root connected with our modern word nightmare. The mara was a night-demon thought to attack people in their sleep. She was often said to sit or lie upon their chests, pressing them down or stealing their breath. She bears some connections to the incubus and succubus myths of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
