Greenland

Greenland – The world’s largest island, situated in the Arctic, Greenland has indigenous Inuit and immigrant Danish inhabitants. The Inuit angakkoq (shaman), discussed by such scholars as Knud Rasmussen and Merete Demant Jakobsen, mediates between human and other-than-human persons, in order to maintain harmony and make reparation for taboo breaking. Greenland’s strong historic connections to Scandinavia gave rise to one of the most important records of Heathen seidr practices, the Saga of Erik the Red, which describes a séance at a Viking farmstead in Greenland.
